Patna, March 30: The Bihar government is conducting a comprehensive assessment of crop damage caused by storms, unseasonal rains, and hail in various districts during the last week of March.
District agricultural officers have submitted damage reports to the agriculture department. Affected farmers will soon receive relief in the form of compensation for their crop losses. Bihar’s Agriculture Minister, Ramkripal Yadav, stated on Monday that reports from 36 districts indicate significant crop damage in 12 districts, including Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Araria, Begusarai, Madhubani, Purnia, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Supaul, and Bhagalpur, covering a total of 111 blocks.
In these areas, approximately 206,000 hectares of crops, including wheat, maize, pulses, and oilseeds, have been assessed to have suffered 33% or more damage. The minister assured that assistance for crop compensation will be provided to affected farmers promptly. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and is expediting the necessary administrative processes to provide relief to farmers.
He emphasized that the Bihar government stands firmly with farmers in all circumstances. Providing support to farmers affected by natural disasters is the government’s top priority. The minister clarified that there will be no shortage of funds for crop compensation, as the government believes that disaster victims have the first claim on the public treasury. He reassured all affected farmers that the state government is committed to compensating their losses and that relief funds will be made available soon, enabling farmers to prepare for the next planting season.
