Guwahati, June 21: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has initiated a structured roadmap for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027. Secretary Devjeet Saikia stated that the board is committed to ensuring the national team receives ample practice in 50-over matches ahead of this major tournament.
Speaking in Guwahati, Saikia mentioned that BCCI is working on a clear plan for the World Cup scheduled for October-November next year. This long-term planning process involves selectors, support staff, and the head coach.
Saikia remarked, “BCCI is charting a clear path for the ODI World Cup 2027. We will have sufficient ODI matches from now until the tournament begins in October 2027. We have already announced the team for three ODIs in England, set to take place from July 14 to 19.”
The BCCI Secretary emphasized that the team management is collaborating with selectors to ensure India is well-prepared for this global event. He added, “Selectors, support staff, and the head coach are all working together.”
These statements come at a time when India is gearing up for the next ODI World Cup cycle, having reached the finals in the 2023 edition and remaining one of the strongest teams in the 50-over format. The upcoming ODI series in England from July 14-19 will provide the team management with another opportunity to test combinations and work towards the 2027 tournament.
With over a year remaining before entering the final phase of the World Cup cycle, BCCI appears eager to avoid a shortage of ODI cricket and ensure a clear pathway for players vying for a spot on the national team.
