Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, is witnessing a striking winter scene following heavy snowfall, which has transformed the landscape into a beautiful white expanse. However, this picturesque setting has brought significant difficulties for the local residents.
The morning of Thursday was particularly cold and challenging. Temperatures plunged to below zero, causing roads to become extremely slippery. This has made walking and commuting difficult for pedestrians. Many are relying on public transport, while others prefer to stay indoors to avoid the harsh cold and slippery conditions.
The Jhelum River flowing through the town appears even more scenic now that the fog has lifted, but icy roads and snowy conditions pose risks to those venturing outdoors. Despite caution, numerous people have encountered falls due to the slippery surfaces. Drivers are also facing tough conditions, struggling to maintain control of their vehicles on the slick roads.
Local resident Shafaat Sen noted that the previous day had dense fog but the roads were not slippery. However, the sharp drop in temperature on Thursday morning turned the roads hazardous, especially on the National Highway, where drainage issues have caused vehicles to move slowly and with difficulty.
Shafaat further highlighted that snow clearance has been inadequate in several areas, adding to the inconvenience for both pedestrians and motorists. He urged the administration and municipal authorities to expedite snow removal and road clearing efforts to provide relief and improve mobility in Baramulla.
