Dhaka, February 27: A court in Bangladesh has issued orders for action against UK MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq. The court has directed authorities to request an Interpol Red Notice for her arrest. This decision was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz on Thursday, as reported by local media.
According to bench assistant Riaz Hussain, the order came after an appeal from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The appeal, filed by ACC Assistant Director AKM Murtaza Ali Sagar, sought the issuance of a Red Notice against Siddiq through Interpol. Siddiq is a member of the ruling Labour Party in the UK.
Local reports indicate that the appeal alleges that Siddiq misused her aunt Sheikh Hasina’s influence during her tenure as Prime Minister. It is claimed that she illegally occupied a flat at Eastern Housing Limited in Gulshan, Dhaka, by influencing a legal officer of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) without making any payment.
A case has been registered against Tulip Siddiq in this matter. As she is currently abroad, the ACC has deemed it necessary to issue an Interpol Red Notice for her arrest.
This new development under the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government highlights ongoing tensions with the Awami League, which experts view as a form of political retaliation.
Earlier this month, a Dhaka court sentenced Sheikh Hasina to ten years in prison in a corruption case linked to the Purbachal plot scandal, while Tulip Siddiq received a four-year sentence.
On December 1, 2025, a Bangladeshi court sentenced Hasina to five years in prison for irregularities in the distribution of plots under the Purbachal project. Additionally, Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana was sentenced to seven years, while Tulip Siddiq received a two-year sentence.
Furthermore, on November 27 of last year, a Dhaka court sentenced Hasina to 21 years in prison in three corruption cases filed by the ACC.
Following these verdicts, Hasina and her family have dismissed the corruption allegations against them, claiming these accusations are “misuse, politically motivated, and without solid basis.”
Criticizing the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, they stated, “We completely deny all corruption allegations. Each accusation is influenced by our political opponents. The ACC operates under a non-representative government, equipped with biased and unilateral evidence that does not allow us a chance to defend ourselves.”
