Kingstown, March 20: The Australia women’s cricket team kicked off their three-match T20 series against the West Indies with a convincing victory. On Friday, at the Arnos Vale Stadium, Beth Mooney’s impressive half-century led Australia to a 43-run win, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the start was not ideal. Opener Georgia Wyll lost her wicket for just 8 runs, and Phoebe Litchfield followed soon after, scoring only 6 runs. Both wickets fell at a score of 34. It was then that Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry stabilized the innings, forming a solid partnership of 99 runs for the third wicket, bringing the team’s total to 133 in 16.3 overs.

Perry was dismissed as the third wicket, scoring 36 runs off 32 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six.

Beth Mooney shone with the bat, scoring 79 runs off 55 balls, featuring 2 sixes and 7 fours. She was out at a score of 143. Apart from Mooney and Perry, no lower-order batsman made a significant contribution. Australia finished their innings at 164 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

For the West Indies, Deandra Dottin took 3 wickets for 35 runs in 4 overs, while Shanel Henry claimed 2 wickets for 28 runs in her 4 overs. Jahzara Claxton also picked up 1 wicket.

Chasing a target of 165, the West Indies managed only 121 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs, losing the match by 43 runs. Kiana Joseph was the top scorer for the West Indies with 45 runs, while Stafanie Taylor contributed 28 runs.

For Australia, Alana King was exceptional, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in her 4 overs. Georgia Wareham added 2 wickets for 14 runs in 3 overs, and Kim Garth took 1 wicket for 17 runs in her 4 overs.
