Australia Strengthens Grip in Pink-Ball Test Against India

Perth, March 7: The Australian women’s cricket team has taken a firm hold in the only day-night Test match against India at the WACA Ground. By the end of the second day, India has lost six wickets, managing only 105 runs. Australia currently leads by 20 runs based on their first innings.

After losing the toss, the Indian team batted first and was restricted to just 198 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored with 52 runs off 84 balls, including seven boundaries. Shafali Verma contributed 35 runs, while Kashvi Gautam remained unbeaten on 34. For Australia, Annabel Sutherland was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets, while Lucy Hamilton took three. Darcy Brown secured two wickets, and Ashley Gardner added one to her tally.

In response, Australia amassed 323 runs, establishing a significant lead of 125 runs. Captain Ellyse Perry formed a crucial partnership of 128 runs for the fourth wicket with Annabel Sutherland, who later added 54 runs with Beth Mooney for the fifth wicket. Perry scored 76 runs with 11 boundaries before being dismissed, while Mooney contributed 19 runs. Sutherland played a pivotal role, scoring 129 runs off 171 balls, including 17 fours. For India, Sayali Satghare was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets, while Kranthi Gaud and Deepti Sharma claimed two wickets each. Sneha Rana and Shafali Verma each took one wicket.

By the end of the second day, India faced 29 overs in their second innings, scoring just 105 runs while losing six wickets. They suffered an early blow with Smriti Mandhana dismissed for just 2 runs, followed by Shafali Verma at a score of 10.

Pratikka Rawal attempted to stabilize the innings, forming a partnership of 28 runs with Jemimah Rodrigues (14) and 26 runs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (11). Additionally, she added an unbeaten 23 runs for the seventh wicket with Sneha Rana. Pratikka ended the day with 43 runs, hitting six boundaries, while Sneha Rana scored 14 runs with two fours. For Australia, Lucy Hamilton has taken three wickets, while Sutherland has two, and Darcy Brown has one.
