Australia Faces Setback as Phoebe Litchfield Ruled Out of Three Matches in Womens T20 World Cup

Leeds, June 17: The Australian team has suffered a significant blow during the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Star batswoman Phoebe Litchfield will miss the next three matches due to a quad injury sustained during the last game against South Africa.

Litchfield had an impressive performance, scoring 50 runs off just 24 balls with 10 boundaries against South Africa. Unfortunately, she will not participate in the upcoming match against Bangladesh on Wednesday. Additionally, all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner is also sidelined due to an ankle sprain.

At just 23 years old, this marks a new injury for Litchfield. She had previously faced quad issues in the same leg, which prevented her from playing in both warm-up matches in Cardiff before the tournament. There are concerns that she may also miss upcoming matches against the Netherlands on June 20 and Pakistan on June 23. However, she is expected to return for the crucial match against India at Lord’s on June 28.

In the match taking place at Headingley on Wednesday, Australia has included Megan Schutt and Grace Harris in their playing eleven.

In Group A, Australia secured a 65-run victory against South Africa in their opening match and currently leads the points table with a net run rate of +3.250. Meanwhile, Bangladesh won their first match against the Netherlands by six wickets and sits in third place with a net run rate of +0.407.

Australia’s Playing Eleven: Beth Mooney (wicketkeeper), Georgia Voll, Ellyse Perry, Grace Harris, Georgia Wareham, Annabel Sutherland, Nicola Carey, Sophie Molineux (captain), Alana King, Kim Garth, Megan Schutt.

Bangladesh’s Playing Eleven: Dilara Akhter, Jueria Firdaus, Nigar Sultana (captain/wicketkeeper), Shobhana Mostori, Sharmin Akhter, Shorna Akhter, Ritu Moni, Nahida Akhter, Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatoon, and Marufa Akhter.
