Attack on Police Post in Pakistans Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Claims Life of Assistant Sub-Inspector

Islamabad, March 4: An attack on a police post in the Badan area of Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, occurred on Wednesday, resulting in the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Daulat Khan. Unknown assailants opened fire on the post, prompting local police to cordon off the area and initiate a search operation for the suspects.

According to reports from local media, incidents of attacks on security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have surged over the past month, as highlighted by The Express Tribune.

Earlier, on February 26, an attack on the Ababeel police patrol team in the Nawakalai area of Bajaur resulted in the deaths of four police officers and injuries to two others. Additionally, on February 14, gunfire from unidentified assailants at the Wara Mamond police station led to the death of Extra Station House Officer (SHO) Gul Mano Din.

Meanwhile, a report from a think tank based in Islamabad revealed a 30% increase in conflict-related deaths across Pakistan in February, attributed to a rise in suicide attacks.

According to another major newspaper, Dawn, a report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicated that February saw 470 deaths and 333 injuries. Among the victims were 96 civilians, 80 security personnel, and 294 militants. The injured included 259 civilians, 50 security personnel, and 24 militants.

The data shows a significant increase compared to January, with a 74% rise in deaths among security personnel, a 32% increase among civilians, and a 21% rise among militants.

In February alone, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the deaths of 53 security personnel and six civilians, with 35 security personnel and 48 civilians injured. The province also experienced three suicide attacks, claiming 17 lives, including 14 security personnel, and injuring 20 others.

A suicide attack in Islamabad resulted in the deaths of 34 individuals and injured 165 others. Additionally, a suicide bombing in Bhakkar district of Punjab province led to the deaths of two police officers and injuries to four others.

In total, eight suicide attacks were recorded in January and February of this year, nearly half of the 17 incidents documented throughout 2025.

According to PICSS data, the first two months of 2026 have seen a total of 831 conflict-related deaths, including 536 militants, 169 civilians, and 126 security personnel.
