Attack on CPEC Route in Pakistan: Two Dead in Shooting at Police Station and Customs Office

Peshawar, February 18: Gunmen attacked a police station and a customs office located on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to local media reports, the assault resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

As reported by Dawn News, two officers were killed and two others injured during the attack on the Yarikh police station and a nearby customs office on Wednesday.

Officials stated that the assailants opened fire with automatic weapons at the Yarikh police station and the customs office, both situated along the CPEC route.

A police spokesperson confirmed that customs officer Israr Khan and police constable Mohammad Bilal lost their lives in the incident.

The injured have been identified as Hazrat Umar and Khayal Mohammad, who were transferred to the trauma center at the district hospital.

Police reported that the attackers also fired upon passenger buses traveling along the CPEC route, creating panic in the area. During the assault, a customs vehicle was set ablaze.

Security personnel returned fire, prompting the assailants to flee. A heavy police presence was deployed to the scene immediately after the incident, and a search operation commenced in the surrounding area. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to apprehend those involved in the attack.

Earlier this month, armed individuals attacked a police party in the Wanda Budh area of Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the deaths of four police officers, including a station house officer (SHO).

Additionally, on January 24, an explosion during a wedding ceremony in the district killed five people, including a leader of a peace committee, and injured ten others. This incident was reported as a suicide attack.

On the same day, Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department claimed to have killed eight alleged terrorists during a search operation. According to the CTD, three of its personnel were also injured in the gunfire, and weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased terrorists.
