Assams Cultural Preservation is Our Duty: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, March 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that preserving the state’s cultural and religious traditions is a primary responsibility of the government. He clearly stated that safeguarding culture is a duty that the government is committed to fulfilling.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Chief Minister wrote, “Our culture is not just a slogan. It lives in our festivals, our prayers, and our people.” He asserted that it is the government’s duty to stand with the communities that keep these traditions alive.

CM Sarma revealed that the state government is providing financial assistance to various religious and cultural groups. Each Raas committee is receiving ₹25,000 to enhance the organization of the Raas festival, which is deeply connected to Assam’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Additionally, over 8,000 prayer committees in the state are being granted ₹10,000 each to ensure the smooth conduct of religious events.

The Assam government has also ensured monthly support of ₹1,500 for 620 dedicated devotees who play a crucial role in maintaining spiritual traditions and community life.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the BJP government is fully committed to preserving and promoting Assam’s rich cultural heritage. He stated that our culture, our traditions, and our responsibilities are intertwined, assuring that such initiatives will continue in the future.

This statement from the Chief Minister comes at a time when the government is working to strengthen cultural institutions and support traditional religious organizations at the grassroots level.

The government is making its operations—such as infrastructure, law and order, and financial aid to religious and community institutions—a key electoral issue. Simultaneously, the party is strategizing to maintain its support base by emphasizing identity and cultural issues while seeking to build a broader voter bank through new alliances.
