Imphal, April 20: The Assam Rifles launched a significant search operation in the Kamjong district of Manipur based on intelligence reports. Authorities received information about weapons and explosives being hidden near the India-Myanmar border, with plans for their transportation.
The operation took place between the nights of April 11 and 12, 2026. During the search, troops utilized metal detectors and a specially trained dog. They identified a suspicious location where a substantial cache of weapons was buried underground. This included various firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other military supplies. All recovered items were handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.
Following this, the Assam Rifles conducted another major operation in collaboration with state police commandos and the Territorial Army. This joint operation occurred from April 16 to 19, 2026, across the Thoubal, Tengnoupal, and Kakching districts. During this period, three insurgents were apprehended.
The arrested individuals were reportedly linked to banned organizations PREPAK (Pro) and KYKL (Sorepa). Investigations revealed that they had received training in Myanmar. Authorities also seized mobile phones and foreign currency from them. After their arrest, all individuals were handed over to the police along with their belongings for further legal action and investigation.
Meanwhile, a separate operation was conducted in Mizoram, where the Assam Rifles collaborated with the Customs Department in Aizawl. This joint effort led to the seizure of a large consignment of foreign cigarettes in the Jemabawk area.
A total of 99 cases of foreign cigarettes were confiscated, valued at approximately ₹2.37 crore in the market. One individual was arrested in connection with this case. The seized goods and the accused have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation.
