Guwahati, May 1: Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Barua expressed strong confidence in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prospects for the upcoming assembly elections. He stated that the party is set to secure a significant majority, winning all three assembly seats in the Nalbari district.
Speaking to reporters, Barua emphasized that the BJP-led coalition is moving towards a decisive victory across the state. He predicted that following the results announcement on May 4, the opposition’s voices would become irrelevant. He asserted that discussions surrounding Congress-led parties would also lose significance after May 4.
Barua indirectly targeted key opposition leaders from Congress and its allies, claiming that voters have already made up their minds in favor of the ruling coalition. He reiterated that the BJP will triumph in all three assembly seats in Nalbari district and highlighted the overwhelming grassroots support the party has received during its campaign and outreach programs.
He further asserted that the BJP is likely to win at least 90 seats in Assam’s 126-member assembly, and given the support the party has garnered, surpassing the 100-seat mark would not be surprising.
“We expect to secure a minimum of 90 seats this time. If we reach 100, it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone,” he stated.
Comparing this election to the last, Barua noted that the BJP had won 20 out of 51 seats in lower Assam during the previous assembly elections. However, he claimed that the party’s position in the region has significantly strengthened over the past five years. “Last time, we won 20 seats in lower Assam. This time, we are confident of winning at least 35 seats,” he concluded.
