Assam Chief Minister Presents 50 Challenges to Youth Innovators for Technological Solutions
Assams CM Himanta Biswa Sarma outlines 50 challenges for youth innovators, seeking tech-based solutions for issues like floods and health.

Guwahati, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on September 25 that the state government has introduced the ‘Northeast Service Rapid Innovation Challenge,’ presenting nearly 50 real-world challenges for young innovators to tackle.
The initiative seeks technology-driven solutions for a range of issues, including flood forecasting, healthcare, oil exploration, and semiconductor manufacturing. Sarma emphasized that this effort is part of the state’s ‘Service and Resolution Campaign’ aimed at engaging youth in addressing governance and development challenges.
Among the health-related challenges, innovative methods are being sought to identify high blood pressure in women before pregnancy. The initiative also addresses issues in Assam’s oil and petroleum sector, particularly in exploring oil and gas in fields that are no longer declared productive. Additionally, there is a focus on the semiconductor sector, where various machinery and equipment are currently imported from abroad.
The government is encouraging innovators to explore whether some of these tools and components can be manufactured locally in Assam. Sarma highlighted deforestation as another area needing innovative interventions, particularly in monitoring and managing forests during logging activities.
Flood management remains a critical challenge. The government is looking for solutions that can provide flood warnings at least 12 hours in advance, allowing departments and communities to prepare and respond more effectively.
“These are the problems we have presented to the younger generation to guide us towards solutions,” Sarma stated. He noted that this challenge is open not only to the youth of Assam but also to young people across the Northeast and the rest of India.
Selected innovations will receive government support, including financial assistance and access to relevant departmental data. The state is also considering how successful solutions can be integrated into its policies and how to support startups in further developing these innovations. Sarma mentioned that if successful, this initiative could become an annual event.
