Ashwin Criticizes Exclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal from New Zealand ODI Squad

Ravichandran Ashwin expresses disappointment over Yashasvi Jaiswals omission from Indias ODI squad for the New Zealand tour.

New Delhi, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has voiced his displeasure over the exclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the ODI squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. The announcement was made on Friday, revealing both the ODI and Test teams, but Jaiswal’s absence raised eyebrows.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin emphasized that if Shubman Gill is unable to play the last two ODIs, Jaiswal should definitely be given the opportunity. He expressed concern that this decision could undermine Jaiswal’s confidence, especially given his impressive recent performances.

Ashwin acknowledged the circumstances surrounding Gill and KL Rahul, who have been on a rigorous travel schedule. However, he pointed out that Jaiswal has not received any playing time, which he believes is detrimental. “I’m not just advocating for Jaiswal because he deserves a chance; his confidence is waning. His batting is not reflective of the talent we saw two or three years ago,” Ashwin stated.

He stressed that it is the team’s management’s responsibility to provide Jaiswal with opportunities to regain his form. “He was a run machine. If his confidence is faltering, it’s up to the management and selectors to give him chances wherever possible. Unfortunately, he is not getting those opportunities, which is very wrong,” Ashwin added.

Jaiswal has played six ODIs for India, scoring 285 runs at an impressive average of 71.25 and a strike rate of 97, including two centuries. He was selected for a three-match ODI series against the West Indies but did not make it to the playing XI.
