New Delhi, August 8: Indian badminton player Ashmita Chaliha has made a remarkable entry into the finals of the Korea Masters Super 300 tournament in women’s singles. In a thrilling semifinal match, Ashmita defeated her compatriot Rakshita Ramraj.
The semifinal clash between the two Indian players was fiercely contested. The first game was filled with excitement, with Ashmita managing to secure it 21-13 after a tough struggle. However, Rakshita made a strong comeback in the second game, winning it 21-16 and leveling the score at 1-1. In the decisive third game, Ashmita did not give Rakshita any chance to recover, clinching it 21-13 and earning her spot in the finals. Ashmita will now face China’s Han Qianxi in the final match.
The experienced Ashmita had previously secured her semifinal spot by defeating Japan’s top-seeded player Hina Akechi with scores of 20-22, 21-15, and 21-19. In another tough quarterfinal, Rakshita overcame Chinese Taipei Open champion Tanvi Sharma with a score of 18-21, 21-19, and 21-18 to reach the last four.
In men’s doubles, the pair of Prithvi K. Roy and Krishna Prasad G. faced elimination in the quarterfinals, losing to Malaysia’s Man Wei Chong and Soh Wui Yik with a score of 21-7, 21-8. The BWF World Tour Super 300 series event, concluding this Sunday, boasts a total prize fund of $250,000.
This tournament began in 2007 and was held as an International Challenge-level event until 2010. It was then upgraded to a BWF Grand Prix Gold event in 2011. After the Grand Prix Gold event was discontinued in 2017, the Korea Masters became part of the BWF World Tour Super 300.
