Bengaluru, August 8: The Bengaluru police initiated a special operation named ‘Operation Mukta’ on Saturday. This initiative aims to identify and locate illegal immigrants reportedly residing in various parts of the city. The operation includes raids and verification processes in multiple areas.
Under this operation, police teams conducted searches and document checks in Whitefield, Kadugodi, Mahadevapura, and other neighborhoods. These areas are part of Bengaluru’s major technology corridor, housing numerous multinational IT and biotechnology companies.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sidulla Adawat stated that this special drive was launched following directives from the Bengaluru Police Commissioner.
He remarked, “As per the orders of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, a special drive is being conducted across the city, including the Whitefield DCP division. More than 500 police personnel and officers are involved in this operation, which will continue.”
According to the DCP, police teams have identified several suspected illegal immigrants. After completing the legal processes, some individuals have been sent back to their respective countries.
Adawat mentioned, “Investigations are being conducted at over 30 locations falling under different police stations in the Whitefield division. If any suspicious individuals are found, we will verify their documents. If we discover identification from another country or any clues indicating they are foreign nationals residing here without permission, we will inform the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).”
He added that legal action would commence following orders from the competent authorities for deportation, and illegal immigrants would be sent back to their respective nations.
The police are identifying individuals and verifying documents of those suspected of residing in the city without valid permits. Sources indicate that there is a particular focus on suspected Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas.
The police are also checking the Aadhaar and voter ID cards of suspicious individuals, as authorities suspect that some foreign nationals may have obtained Indian identification documents with the help of local accomplices.
During this ongoing process, over 50 individuals have been identified, including four Bangladeshi nationals lacking proper documentation, who are under further investigation.
The police are also focusing on temporary sheds and other makeshift accommodations rented out to migrant workers.
DCP Adawat reported that some local residents allegedly construct these sheds and rent them to workers who have come to Bengaluru for construction work from other states and districts. The police suspect that alongside migrant workers, some illegal foreign nationals may also be residing in these locations.
The DCP stated, “We will take action against those aiding unauthorized immigration.”
The police confirmed that the verification campaign would continue throughout the city, and further actions would be based on the documents and evidence collected during the process.
