Chandigarh, August 8: Punjab police achieved a significant breakthrough in the Batala grenade attack case. A joint operation conducted by the Jalandhar Counter Intelligence and Batala police led to the arrest of the third suspect involved in the attack. DGP Gaurav Yadav shared this information via a post on the social media platform ‘X’.
The DGP revealed that the arrested individual is a member of a terror module supported by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI. This module was reportedly being directed by a mastermind based in Portugal. Initial investigations indicate that the suspect participated in the attack on the Batala Urban Estate police post on August 1, following instructions from his handler in Portugal. After the incident, the suspect went into hiding and was planning further attacks on police stations across Punjab.
In his post, the DGP emphasized that investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire terror network, identify foreign handlers and local support systems, and trace all connections related to the conspiracy. The Punjab police remain fully committed to dismantling the terror network across the state, preventing organized crime, and ensuring peace, security, and public safety.
On August 4, Punjab police also dismantled two ISI-supported terror modules, resulting in the arrest of nine individuals. DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the Amritsar Commissionerate police had successfully disrupted these cross-border terror modules.
The police apprehended nine suspects, including four minors, and seized three illegal firearms, nine cartridges, and four petrol bombs.
