Itanagar, August 4: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, K.T. Parnaiik, honored Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor, Likha Nari Tadar, with the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ Medallion for Excellence on Sunday. This recognition was awarded for her exceptional contributions to enhancing urban infrastructure and making the state capital cleaner, greener, and more citizen-friendly.
While presenting the award at the Lok Bhawan in Itanagar, the Governor praised the Mayor’s dedicated leadership. He commended her efforts to strengthen civic services, promote cleanliness, and improve the quality of life for residents in the capital region.
Parnaiik congratulated Tadar and the IMC team for their commitment and proactive thinking. He acknowledged the progress made in strengthening municipal services and emphasized that a clean and well-managed city reflects the collective responsibility of citizens and civic authorities, playing a crucial role in enhancing urban life quality.
The Governor encouraged the municipal body to continue its people-centric initiatives and adopt new, technology-based solutions to improve urban operations. He proposed the launch of the ‘Zero Litter Itanagar Mission,’ stressing the need for strict regulations, public awareness campaigns, CCTV monitoring, on-the-spot fines, and a reporting system for citizens.
He also highlighted the importance of segregating waste at its source, urging every household, institution, hotel, restaurant, and market shop to separate wet, dry, and hazardous waste.
Advocating for a plastic-free capital, the Governor called for the elimination of single-use plastics and encouraged the use of locally available bamboo, cane, and other eco-friendly alternatives.
Tadar’s leadership and the IMC’s initiatives are paving the way for a sustainable future in Itanagar.
