Itanagar, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, held on October 11, 2026, in Itanagar, the Arunachal Pradesh government approved several crucial measures aimed at enhancing technical education, health services, women’s safety, and administrative efficiency. The cabinet agreed to establish uniform recruitment rules for various positions in government engineering and polytechnic colleges, along with the creation of 20 positions to operate the women’s helpline, 181.
A senior official from the Chief Minister’s office stated that these new recruitment rules aim to ensure a transparent and merit-based process for hiring teaching and technical staff in government institutions. The approved rules will apply to 12 categories of positions in these colleges, aligning with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regulations established in 2019.
This decision is expected to promote uniformity, transparency, and continuity in the recruitment process across the state’s technical education institutions. By adhering to AICTE standards, the institutional framework of engineering and polytechnic colleges will be strengthened, allowing for appointments based on established criteria.
In a move to assist women in emergencies, the cabinet sanctioned the creation of 20 positions for the women’s helpline-181, in accordance with the guidelines of Mission Shakti. This toll-free service operates 24/7, providing immediate support to women in crisis situations and connecting them with essential services.
Through this helpline, women in need can access medical assistance, shelter, legal aid, emotional support, and necessary guidance. Officials believe that establishing these 20 positions will enhance the effective operation of the helpline, thereby strengthening the support system for women facing violence, emergencies, or other challenging circumstances.
The cabinet also made a significant decision regarding the health sector by approving an increase in the grade pay for various positions under the National Leprosy Elimination Program (NLEP) in the Health and Family Welfare Department. This measure aims to address concerns related to salary equity and fairness for employees working under the program.
According to an official statement, the increase in grade pay is expected to boost employee morale and efficiency, ultimately improving patient care and rehabilitation services. The NLEP plays a vital role in preventing leprosy, ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment, and providing health services and rehabilitation support to affected individuals.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved the creation of five food safety officer positions to strengthen the state’s food safety system. This initiative aims to address staff shortages in the enforcement of food laws and enhance the capacity for monitoring and compliance with food safety regulations.
The addition of these officers is expected to improve the oversight of food safety standards and facilitate necessary actions to protect public health. This will enable more effective implementation of laws and regulations related to food quality and safety in Arunachal Pradesh.
Overall, the cabinet’s decisions are focused on improving recruitment processes in technical education institutions, providing support to vulnerable women, and strengthening health services and food safety mechanisms in the state.
