Mysuru, June 23: The Karnataka police have arrested Ullas Gowda, the main suspect in a case involving the alleged dissemination of a woman’s private photos and videos. This incident is believed to have led to the tragic suicides of the woman and her parents in Mysuru district.
The incident occurred on Monday in Halekempayanahundi village, T. Narasipura taluk. The deceased have been identified as Rakshita, who was set to marry on June 24, and her parents, Shivanna and Nagarathna.
According to police reports, the three family members took poison after Rakshita’s private images and videos went viral. The case has been registered under the jurisdiction of Varuna police station.
Following the incident, Ullas Gowda fled the scene. In response, Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi formed a special team to locate and apprehend him.
Led by Inspectors Dhananjay and Shivanand Shetty, the team tracked down the suspect and arrested him in Mysuru. He was subsequently presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
Investigators revealed that Ullas Gowda was familiar with the family and had visited their home on several occasions. Family members allege that he sent Rakshita’s private photos and videos to her fiancé with the intent of breaking off the engagement.
The police are also investigating how the suspect obtained the photos and videos. The family claims that Rakshita was subjected to severe harassment.
The deaths have sparked significant outrage in the village, prompting protests demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Demonstrators have prevented the police from conducting post-mortem examinations and other legal formalities until action is taken against Gowda.
The police have registered the case and stated that further investigations are underway to determine the causes of death and the suspect’s alleged involvement in the incident.
In other disturbing incidents recently reported in the district, a 65-year-old garment trader in Mandya killed his wife and son before taking his own life. He left a suicide note citing mounting debts and pressure to repay loans, as well as losses related to the state’s free bus travel scheme. The deceased were identified as Prabhakar (65), his wife Jyoti (55), and their son Santosh (28).
In March 2026, another case involved a 27-year-old man who, overwhelmed by debt, murdered his mother and sister and seriously injured his nephew before attempting suicide. The accused, Mohan Gowda, killed his mother Asha (55) and sister Varshita (34), injuring Varshita’s 11-year-old son Mayank.
