MEA spokesperson Randeep Goyal posted on social media platform X, “We are pleased to welcome Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, who has come to New Delhi for the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers meeting and related sessions. The high-level meeting over the next two days demonstrates a shared commitment to a stronger India-Arab partnership across all sectors.”
Earlier, foreign ministers from Comoros, Mabé Mohamed; Palestine, Warsan Agabekian Shaheen; and Sudan, Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim, also arrived in New Delhi to attend the meeting.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “The India-Arab Foreign Ministers meeting is the largest institutional mechanism to advance this partnership. It was formalized in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize the dialogue process.”
It further added, “During the visit of the then Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, to India in December 2008, an MoU was signed to establish the India-Arab Cooperation Forum, which was later restructured in 2013. India is under the supervision of LAS, a pan-Arab organization comprising 22 member states.”
