Anshul Kamboj: The Bowler Who Took All 10 Wickets in a Ranji Match Shines in IPL 2026

New Delhi, April 19: Anshul Kamboj, the fast bowler for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is making headlines in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He has claimed the most wickets among bowlers in the first 27 matches of the season. In just six games, Anshul has bowled 21.4 overs, taking 13 wickets while conceding 130 runs.

Born on December 6, 2000, in Karnal, Haryana, Anshul faced disappointment in 2020 when he was not selected for India’s Under-19 team. This setback motivated him to work harder, and his efforts paid off. Within two seasons, he made his debut for Haryana across all formats.

Anshul began his domestic cricket career in 2022. He caught the attention of IPL scouts during the 2023-24 season by playing a crucial role in helping Haryana win their first Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Following this success, the Mumbai Indians signed him for IPL 2024 at a base price of 2 million rupees. In that season, he took 2 wickets for 60 runs across three matches.

In the subsequent season, the Chennai Super Kings invested 34 million rupees in him. Despite a challenging season where CSK struggled at the bottom of the table, Kamboj shone brightly. In IPL 2025, he took 8 wickets at an average of 21.50 in 8 matches.

For IPL 2026, CSK retained him, and he has once again validated their decision by taking 13 wickets in the first six matches. Over his IPL career, Anshul has played 17 matches, achieving 23 wickets at an average of 21.60.

In 2024 and 2025, Anshul also proved his skills with the red ball. He took 8 wickets in a single innings of the Duleep Trophy. Notably, in the 2024 Ranji Trophy, he achieved the remarkable feat of taking all 10 wickets in an innings against Kerala for just 49 runs. This outstanding performance earned him a spot in the Indian Test team.

Thanks to his impressive first-class season, Anshul was selected for India’s ‘A’ team for the shadow tour of England in 2025. In July, just before the fourth Test against England, he was called up to the senior team due to an injury to Arshdeep Singh. Within two days of arriving in England, he received Test cap number 318 at the age of 24. In that match, he bowled 18 overs, conceding 89 runs and taking 1 wicket, with the match ending in a draw.

Bowling consistently at speeds exceeding 135 kilometers per hour, Anshul Kamboj has the ability to trouble batsmen with his deadly line outside off stump. His pace, precise line-length, and effectiveness in death overs make him a strong contender for the Indian team. His capability to take wickets with the new ball and in the middle overs, along with his fitness and performance under pressure, position him as a promising candidate for selectors.
