Amaravati, June 12: Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his sorrow on Friday over the death of marine engineer Suresh Patnala from Visakhapatnam, who was killed in an attack on a ship carrying Indians off the coast of Oman.
Suresh was one of three Indian sailors who lost their lives in the attack on Wednesday. The incident occurred on the oil tanker ‘MT Setebelo,’ flagged under Palau, near the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. Initially reported missing, the deaths of all three Indian sailors have now been confirmed.
The other two victims were deck cadet Aditya Sharma from Himachal Pradesh and engine fitter Shivanand Chaurasia from Uttar Pradesh. The attack was carried out by the U.S. military as the ship allegedly attempted to breach a blockade imposed by the United States.
Suresh’s family is in deep shock following this tragic event. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
In a statement released by the YSR Congress Party, Jagan Mohan Reddy described the deaths of the three Indians as tragic, particularly noting the untimely loss of Suresh Patnala from Andhra Pradesh. He expressed that the loss of a marine engineer is indeed unfortunate, and the grief of Suresh’s family is beyond words.
Jagan extended his heartfelt condolences to Suresh Patnala’s family, praying for strength to endure this immense sorrow and hoping for peace for Suresh’s soul.
Meanwhile, former MP V. Vijayasai Reddy also reacted to the incident via a social media post on Friday. He lamented that it is tragic for three Indian sailors to lose their lives in a conflict that was not theirs. With over 300,000 Indians working in the global maritime industry, ensuring their safety is crucial.
He urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to reach out to warring nations to ensure the safety of Indian crew members working in high-risk areas.
