Amritsar, April 4: The Punjab police in Amritsar have arrested a young man found in possession of an improvised explosive device (IED) and other suspicious materials. He is reportedly linked to smugglers connected to Pakistan.
Police officials identified the suspect as Harman Singh, son of Major Singh, a resident of Umarpura village in the Ajnala tehsil. Initial investigations revealed that he had acquired the IED and other explosive materials under the direction of handlers based in Pakistan in February 2026. Authorities suspect he was preparing to execute a significant terrorist act.
This operation was conducted jointly by the CIA team of Amritsar and the Ajnala police station. Acting on intelligence, the police swiftly apprehended the suspect and seized a substantial amount of explosive materials from him.
According to police reports, approximately 530 grams of IED, a PTD switch, a voltage battery, and an unregistered motorcycle were recovered from Harman Singh. These items strongly indicate that he was preparing for a major conspiracy.
Investigative agencies have also learned that the suspect was in continuous contact with smugglers and suspicious elements based in Pakistan, operating under their instructions. This case may be linked to an international network, prompting authorities to deepen their investigation.
Currently, the police have registered a case against the suspect and are conducting intensive interrogations. Additionally, raids and investigations have been intensified to locate other suspects connected to this network.
Police officials assert that this timely action has averted a potential major incident. Security agencies remain vigilant and are taking all necessary measures to maintain peace in the region, successfully thwarting a possible significant conspiracy.
