Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on the Serenity of Mumbai Nights

Mumbai, March 7: Renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan often shares his thoughts inspired by his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poetry, on his blog. This time, he expresses his feelings about the tranquility of the night, drawing inspiration from his father.

In his latest blog post, Bachchan beautifully describes the unique serenity that envelops Mumbai at night. He notes that even in a bustling city like Mumbai, an unusual calm descends after sunset. The streets empty out after a day filled with hustle and bustle, leaving behind a profound silence. He writes, “This quietness of Mumbai may seem eerie to many, but for me, it holds a different kind of wonder and beauty.”

Sharing a late-night anecdote, he recounts, “As I was writing this, a car hit a pothole, breaking the silence. At 1 AM, the sound of a motorcycle’s exhaust often pierces the stillness. Perhaps someone is returning home from work or heading out for a night shift. These small sounds deepen the night’s quietude.”

Bachchan further elaborates on the beauty of the sky, stating, “These days, Mumbai’s sky appears bluer and clearer than before. This has been the case for several days. During construction work, water is sprayed, settling the dust and purifying the air. Even during the rainy season, pollution decreases as rain washes away dirt. Additionally, being by the sea, Mumbai benefits from refreshing ocean breezes.”

He concludes by emphasizing that nature is the best medicine. After all, medicines and chemicals originate from nature. Life continues with its ebb and flow—sometimes orderly, sometimes chaotic, filled with noise and silence. He wraps up his reflections with the poignant thought, “Life is the only escape from life.”
