New Delhi, March 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha during a discussion focused on efforts to eradicate left-wing extremism. His speech has sparked varied reactions from political leaders.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad described the Home Minister’s address as historic regarding Naxalism. He emphasized that Shah clarified the situation facing the nation. He also highlighted the rapid development occurring since the Modi government took office.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated that the Home Minister presented the truth backed by facts. He referred to Naxalism as the root of terrorism, claiming that Rahul Gandhi has become an urban Naxal himself. Singh noted that transactions occur in 22 countries using Indian currency, a method not adopted during Congress rule.
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth recalled the dire situation in Jharkhand, where two Superintendents of Police were murdered, along with a Member of Parliament and a legislator. He remarked that Naxalism was so pervasive that shops in both rural and urban areas would close when Naxalites were apprehended. He affirmed that all promises made by PM Modi to the public have been fulfilled.
BJP MP Jagdambika Pal declared that the end of Naxalism would mark a historic day for India. He recounted how his son-in-law had engaged in a confrontation with Naxalites, sustaining eight gunshot wounds; he is no longer with us. The eradication of Naxalism from Indian soil represents a second independence.
Congress MP Imran Masood criticized the government, claiming it is fearful as the country faces severe challenges. He accused them of diverting attention with irrelevant discussions while asserting that none of their members have faced gunfire. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by people during the Salwa Judum movement.
Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav pointed out the contradiction in the government’s actions. While the Home Minister praised soldiers in the Lok Sabha, a bill aimed at reducing the powers of security forces was being introduced in the Rajya Sabha. He highlighted the disparity between honoring soldiers in one house while undermining their morale in another.
