Behala, April 27: In the lead-up to the second phase of voting for 142 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in a roadshow in Behala West on Monday evening. He stated that the final phase of voting in Bengal will create a new history, emphasizing that every vote will lay a strong foundation for change and that the lotus will bloom in Bengal.
During the event, Shah responded to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations that the BJP is bringing in supporters from other states and paying them to inflate crowd numbers at rallies. He questioned the validity of her claims, saying, “Look at the crowd at this roadshow; could such a large number come from outside? There is no truth in what Mamata Banerjee is saying. You shouldn’t listen to her.” He added humorously, “Come on, are you really listening to Mamata Banerjee?”
On April 5, Banerjee had accused the BJP of influencing the ongoing assembly elections by gathering crowds through financial incentives. Regarding clashes between BJP and TMC workers during the election period, Shah asserted that there have been no incidents of violence. He noted that the elections are proceeding peacefully, contrasting this with previous elections in Bengal, which were marred by violence. Shah expressed confidence that the BJP would win the elections with a significant majority.
The first phase of voting for 152 seats in West Bengal took place on April 23, with a voter turnout exceeding 92%. While there were reports of minor incidents of violence, the focus now shifts to the second phase of voting scheduled for April 29. As Monday marks the last day of campaigning, all political parties are mobilizing their efforts to secure votes.
