Christchurch, March 25: New Zealand women’s cricket team captain Amelia Kerr achieved a remarkable milestone in the T20 format. She scored a century against South Africa in the fifth T20 match held in Christchurch on Wednesday.
Kerr played a stunning innings of 105 runs off just 55 balls, hitting 19 fours and 1 six. She completed her century in just 52 balls, marking the fastest T20 century by any New Zealand woman cricketer. This was her second international T20 century, making her the first female player from New Zealand to achieve two T20 centuries.
Kerr has also made history by scoring 30 or more runs in 11 consecutive international T20 innings, a record that includes both male and female players.
Besides Kerr, Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine have also scored centuries for the New Zealand women’s team, each with one century to their name.
As an exceptional all-rounder, Amelia Kerr not only scored 276 runs in the five-match T20 series against South Africa but also took 5 wickets. She was named Player of the Match in the fifth T20 and was recognized as the best player of the series.
Looking at her career statistics, Kerr has played 96 T20 matches, scoring 1,912 runs in 77 innings, including 2 centuries and 7 half-centuries. She has also taken 104 wickets. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), she has played 87 matches, scoring 2,444 runs with 4 centuries and 11 half-centuries, and holds the record for a double century with a top score of 232. In ODIs, she has taken 122 wickets as well.
At just 25 years old, if Kerr maintains her performance, she could end her career as one of the greatest all-rounders in women’s cricket.
