New Delhi, March 25: The morning broadcasts of All India Radio (AIR), under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will soon feature a significant change. Starting March 26, AIR will air the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ instead of just two verses.
Since independence, it has been a tradition for AIR stations to begin their morning broadcasts with this iconic tune, followed by a 65-second rendition of ‘Vande Mataram.’ However, this tradition will evolve with the introduction of the complete version, which will be implemented across all AIR stations.
This change comes in light of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 28, 2026, regarding the national anthem. The new version of ‘Vande Mataram’ will have a duration of 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
The initial rendition will be performed by renowned classical singer Pandit Chandrashekhar Waje, who sings it in Raag Desh. His voice imbues every word and emotion of the song with patriotism and love for the motherland. For those who have only heard the shorter version, experiencing the complete song will be a refreshing change.
Additionally, various regional versions of the national song will be recorded. These will incorporate local musical instruments and classical melodies, allowing people from each state to enjoy the song in their own musical and linguistic styles. This initiative will also honor India’s musical diversity and local traditions.
Listeners of AIR can look forward to hearing the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ at the start of the morning broadcasts from Thursday. The song will no longer be limited to Hindi or a single style but will also be presented in regional music and local tunes.
