Aligarh Police have successfully recovered and returned 238 lost and stolen mobile phones to their rightful owners, bringing smiles to many faces across the city.
According to police officials, the phones were traced and retrieved through the Communication Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, a government-operated platform that helps track and block lost or stolen mobile devices using their IMEI numbers. The total estimated value of the recovered phones is approximately ₹48,95,287.
The recovered phones were handed back to the owners after verifying their documents. Many recipients expressed their gratitude towards the police administration and technical teams, describing this initiative as highly beneficial for common citizens.
Police emphasized that the CEIR portal allows individuals to file complaints directly, which helps prevent misuse of lost phones and increases the chances of recovery. The Aligarh Police Cyber Cell and related departments had formed multiple teams dedicated to tracing these phones over a period of time.
Authorities urged the public to immediately report any lost or stolen mobile phones to the nearest police station and register complaints on the CEIR portal. They also advised citizens to keep their IMEI numbers safe, as this information is crucial for tracking and blocking devices when needed.
Those who received their phones back shared how important the devices were, containing personal memories, essential documents, and work-related data. Many had lost hope of recovering their phones but were relieved and thankful to Aligarh Police for their persistent efforts.
