Akshay Bhatia Shines at RBC Heritage, Climbs Leaderboard with Stellar Performance

Hilton Head Island, April 18: Indian golfer Akshay Bhatia made a remarkable comeback during the second round of the RBC Heritage tournament held in Hilton Head Island, USA. He achieved an impressive score of 8-under 63, marking the lowest score of the day. This outstanding performance propelled him 46 spots up the leaderboard, landing him in a tie for 19th place.

The 24-year-old golfer had a less than ideal start, scoring 73 in the first round. However, his exceptional play in the second round brought his total score to 6-under par, strengthening his position as the tournament progresses. Another Indian player, Sahil Theegala, also performed well, scoring 4-under 67 in the second round, which placed him in a tie for 19th as well. His aggressive gameplay was evident, featuring two eagles, three birdies, and three bogeys.

Surdas Yelamraju also showcased solid performance, scoring 5-under 66 and reaching a total of 2-under, tying for 46th place. His round concluded spectacularly with four consecutive birdies. Notably, Akshay Bhatia recorded a total of 11 birdies during his round, although it included one bogey and one double bogey. He quickly recovered, delivering a series of impressive shots, particularly on the last nine holes where he made six birdies, significantly changing the match’s dynamics.

As for the leaderboard, 2023 champion Matt Fitzpatrick is in first place with a score of 14-under par, having achieved a flawless 8-under 63 in the second round. He is followed closely by Viktor Hovland at 13-under in second place. Harris English holds the third position with a score of 10-under. Ludwig Aberg, who led after the first round, has slipped to fourth place, sharing it with Patrick Cantlay and Sepp Straka. World number one Scottie Scheffler is tied for 14th at 7-under, while Cameron Young is in 35th place.
