New Delhi, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed AirTrunk’s announcement of a ₹300,000 crore ($30 billion) investment in India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem on Friday. He described this moment as a significant milestone in India’s digital journey.
On the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “India’s digital infrastructure journey is gaining momentum. AirTrunk has announced plans to invest approximately ₹300,000 crore ($30 billion) and develop 5 gigawatts of data center capacity. This is one of the largest proposed investments in the country’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.”
He further emphasized that such investments would strengthen India’s position as a global hub for cloud computing and AI, create job opportunities, support local supply chains, and accelerate innovation-driven growth.
PM Modi noted that it is evident the future of the global digital economy is rapidly taking shape in India.
AirTrunk, supported by Blackstone and the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board, entered the Indian market after acquiring Lumina CloudInfra in April.
The company plans to invest $30 billion in India over the next five years, aiming for completion by 2030.
On this occasion, AirTrunk’s CEO, Robin Khuda, also met with PM Modi on Friday.
In a press release, Khuda stated that capital is dynamic, and India is creating favorable conditions for its growth.
He added that India is adopting a top-tier approach to AI, which includes clear government initiatives, a wealth of world-class talent, and widespread availability of renewable energy. “We were bullish on India even before entering the market through Lumina,” he remarked.
