AIMWPLB Welcomes Womens Reservation Bill, Advocates for Merit-Based Opportunities

Aligarh, April 6: The central government is preparing to introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill, sparking intense political discussions. In this context, Shaista Ambar, the founding president of the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB), has expressed support for the initiative, calling it a welcome step.

In an interview with a news agency, Ambar stated, “Women’s reservation has been a topic for many years. Since India’s independence, it has not been implemented. If there is a debate in Parliament regarding women’s reservation and the proposal is being passed, all political parties should act fairly and honestly. Opportunities should be given based on merit, not on community or class.”

The AIMWPLB president emphasized, “Women should participate in every local body, from village councils to all levels of governance in India. We constitute half the population, so we should receive 50% reservation. However, if that is not possible, at least 33% should be ensured. There should be no nepotism, where a male MP fills a seat with any relative just to meet quotas.”

She further stated, “All parties should unanimously pass the women’s reservation. Women should receive representation in the executive, judiciary, and legislature. Additionally, both government and non-government organizations should ensure reservation for women. Those who have struggled on the streets based on their qualifications should benefit from this reservation.”

Ambar concluded, “Women are often the most educated, capable, and self-respecting individuals to implement national plans. They will work with integrity. The male society should encourage women. Any form of domestic violence against women is unacceptable. Every institution in the country should include women in their reservation policies and utilize their qualifications.”
