
Reasi, May 18: The district administration of Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir has issued an advisory regarding the emergency silt flushing operations at the Salal Power Station in Jyotipuram. According to the advisory, the spillway gates of the dam will remain open from 9:00 AM on May 21 until May 30, 2026, to facilitate the removal of silt from the reservoir.
Officials have indicated that the opening of the gates could raise the water level of the Chenab River by 2 to 3 meters in several upstream and downstream areas of the Salal Dam. The affected regions include Deharan, Thanpal, Arnas, Sai Lanjan, Narlu, Gari, Salmot, Gulzar Kothi, Said Baba, Bidda, Kachhi Khera, Talwara, Nambla, Vijaypur, Bara Darri, Patta, Kansi Patta, Jehdi, Panasa, Badr, Chumbian, and nearby villages.
The administration has advised the public to avoid approaching the banks of the Chenab River during this period to prevent any untoward incidents. People are also requested to refrain from rafting and the movement of vehicles and livestock along the riverbanks.
Meanwhile, officials from the revenue, police, SDRF, and rural development departments have been instructed to closely monitor the situation and raise public awareness during the river cleaning operations to ensure safety.
