Mumbai, August 16: The ongoing student protests in Jharkhand against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams have garnered support from the film industry and social activists. Actress and social worker Kunika Sadanand arrived in Ranchi from Mumbai on Sunday to meet with the protesting students at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
During her visit, she listened to the students’ demands and expressed her support for their cause. Kunika emphasized that education and employment are critical issues for the youth. She stated that students deserve a better academic environment and that the entire process of competitive examinations should be transparent.
She remarked that if there are allegations of discrepancies, cheating, or other irregularities in any examination, the government must conduct a fair investigation and take swift action. According to her, the students’ movement primarily revolves around questions of job security and transparency in competitive exams. It is essential for the government to engage in dialogue with the protesting students. She noted that prolonged protests are not the first choice for any student; their priority is to focus on their studies and prepare for their future.
Regarding the students’ demand for a CBI investigation, Kunika stated that if students are calling for an inquiry by a central agency, the government should seriously consider it. She believes that a fair investigation would not only reveal the actual situation but also restore students’ trust.
She urged both the government and students to find a solution through dialogue. Kunika stressed that students should return to their studies and career preparations as soon as possible instead of remaining on the streets for an extended period.
Before Kunika’s arrival in Ranchi, actor Piyush Mishra had also visited the protest site to encourage the students. Additionally, actor Naseeruddin Shah released a video message expressing his support for the student movement.
Led by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum, students have been protesting at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for the past 23 days. Their main demands include the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL exam and a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in recruitment exams.
