AAP to Contest Gujarat Local Body Elections Independently, Candidate List Coming Soon: Isudan Gadhvi

Ahmedabad, March 22: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat without any alliances. This announcement was made by the party’s state president, Isudan Gadhvi, on Sunday. He also mentioned that the first list of candidates will be released shortly.

During a press conference in Ahmedabad, Gadhvi stated that the party has decided to fight the elections independently. He emphasized that AAP adheres to its electoral strategy. “Our party will not form any alliances for the local elections. We are moving forward with our strategy and will be among the first to announce our candidates,” he said.

Gadhvi revealed that meetings of the party’s screening committee have taken place over the past three days, involving discussions with top leadership. The first list of candidates is expected to be released soon, while deliberations are ongoing for a second list. He claimed that during Arvind Kejriwal’s visit to Gujarat, they would finalize the second list, with an announcement anticipated by March 28-29. The selection process includes applications from potential candidates, which he described as an open approach aimed at providing opportunities to ordinary citizens.

The party’s preparations coincide with the planned visit of its national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to Gujarat from March 24 to 27. During this visit, both leaders are scheduled to address public meetings in Saurashtra and tribal areas.

According to Gadhvi, the Vijay Vishwas Sabha program, focusing on farmers’ issues, will be held on March 25 in Amreli and on March 26 in Jamnagar, where Kejriwal is expected to raise concerns related to the farming community. On March 27, Kejriwal and Mann will participate in a large public gathering in Dahod, addressing issues pertinent to tribal communities.

Gadhvi noted that the issues raised during the visit will focus on the poor, marginalized, and underprivileged groups, including tribal populations. Discussions will also cover the party’s candidate selection process and broader electoral strategy. Gadhvi further indicated that the party expects to discuss the upcoming by-election for the Umreth Assembly seat during leadership meetings, hinting that a decision on this matter will be made soon.
