Chandigarh, February 13: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab organized a statewide protest on Friday against opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa’s casteist and derogatory comments directed at Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO.

Numerous senior AAP leaders, ministers, legislators, activists, and residents participated in the demonstrations, chanting slogans demanding a public apology from Bajwa and the Congress leadership.

AAP leader Baltej Pannu stated that Bajwa’s shameful and casteist remarks about Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO are not just an insult to one minister but a direct attack on the entire Dalit community and the hardworking people and laborers of Punjab.

He emphasized the demand for Bajwa and the Congress leadership to publicly apologize to the Dalit community and all hardworking individuals.

The Punjab General Secretary of AAP further remarked that Congress’s anti-Dalit mindset has once again been exposed before the people of Punjab. The Aam Aadmi Party will not allow anyone to insult Dalits or undermine the dignity of the state’s hardworking population.

Challenging the Congress leadership, AAP leaders in Punjab questioned whether Bajwa’s casteist language reflects the official stance of the Congress party. They asked if Congress supports Bajwa’s derogatory comments and whether the party’s president and senior leaders will publicly condemn his remarks or remain silent, as they have in the past regarding attacks on Dalits and their neglect or humiliation.

Large protests took place across Punjab, including in Malerkotla and Rupnagar. Many local residents and band performers joined AAP leaders and party workers in denouncing Bajwa and Congress’s anti-Dalit mentality.

Demonstrations were also held in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Amritsar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Bathinda, Fazilka, Firozpur, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Barnala, and SAS Nagar, where AAP workers took to the streets in large numbers to condemn the anti-Dalit mindset.
