AAP Legislators Protest Over Fire Safety Concerns in New Delhi

New Delhi, March 24: Opposition leader Atishi, along with other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, staged a protest outside the assembly on Tuesday. They accused the government of failing to provide even a single ladder for the fire department, despite a budget of one lakh crore rupees.

The AAP leaders displayed posters highlighting their concerns, stating: “Budget: 1 lakh crore rupees and not a single ladder for the fire brigade,” emphasizing the inadequate fire safety infrastructure.

Speaking to reporters, Atishi criticized the government, claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) showed no shame. “While they should be mourning, they are celebrating and enjoying sweets. Delhi Minister Ashish Sood is blaming the families who lost nine members instead of taking responsibility. Despite a budget of one lakh crore rupees, they have not provided even one ladder,” she stated.

AAP legislator Imran Hussain mentioned that four party members had been suspended and questioned the government’s priorities. “A budget of one lakh crore rupees was presented, yet not a single ladder was purchased for the fire department,” he said.

Legislator Pravesh Rathore also condemned the suspensions, calling the situation unjust. He questioned, “Our four legislators have been suspended, and the entire opposition is sitting outside—what kind of budget is this?”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the annual budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the assembly, proposing a total allocation of 1,03,700 crore rupees. This marks her second budget for the national capital. Speaker Vijender Gupta congratulated her, stating, “Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is presenting the 2026-27 budget. Congratulations on her second Delhi budget.”

He noted that Delhi has faced tough times over the years. Despite challenges like corruption, narrow-minded politics, and vote bank strategies, Delhi is now making rapid progress, with actions and developments visible in people’s lives, not just in announcements.
