Tensions Rise in West Bengal as Rahul Gandhis Protest Faces Criticism

Kolkata, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata is witnessing heightened political tensions following a protest led by Rahul Gandhi and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDI Alliance) over allegations of vote theft and the SIR issue. Tapas Roy, West Bengal’s Minister for Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction, launched a sharp attack on Gandhi, claiming that he lacks credibility across India and is not in a position to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In response to Gandhi’s protest, BJP leader Rahul Sinha also criticized the Congress party. The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a nationwide ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’ on October 7, marking Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years in public service. This initiative will feature marches at the district level across West Bengal, culminating in a showcase of the journey in Kolkata.

Roy praised the ‘Seva Jyoti Yatra’, stating, “It is a beautiful initiative that began on our Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, September 17. It is being celebrated across the country, including in West Bengal, and will continue on Wednesday. On that day, PM Modi will complete 25 years as both Chief Minister and Prime Minister, with events happening throughout the state and the nation.”

Regarding the detention of Humayun Kabir, Roy remarked that it was a necessary action, suggesting that Kabir had been inciting unrest with his comments about the police and the Chief Minister, which he deemed inappropriate for a political activist.

As for Gandhi’s protest, Roy emphasized that the public does not trust him. He asserted that Gandhi does not have the stature to confront PM Modi and suggested that Abhishek Banerjee should be arrested immediately for his role in damaging West Bengal.

BJP MP Rahul Sinha echoed this sentiment, stating that even if elections were held 50 times in Nandigram, Congress would lose. He claimed that Congress has severed its connection with the public, leaving them with no choice but to evade accountability. “Those who do not study run away from exams. Congress has not prepared, and now that the exam is here, they have chosen the best route to escape,” Sinha remarked.

Sinha concluded by noting that the election results, determined by the people’s votes, will be revealed on October 9. He expressed confidence in accepting whatever decision the public makes, while criticizing Gandhi and Banerjee’s protest march as irrelevant due to their lack of power and influence. He stated that the decline of Congress is linked to Gandhi, suggesting that both Congress and the Trinamool Congress are parties on the verge of collapse.
