New Delhi, March 3: The Zimbabwe cricket team is experiencing delays in returning home from India due to disruptions in air travel caused by the escalating crisis in the Middle East. Their journey follows the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Under the leadership of Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe completed the group stage without losing a match, securing victories against former champions Australia and Sri Lanka. However, they faced defeats in all three matches during the Super 8 stage, ending their campaign with pride.
After the World Cup, the team was scheduled to travel via Dubai. Unfortunately, the airport there is currently closed, forcing the team to wait for alternative arrangements to return home.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) issued a statement on Monday confirming that the senior men’s team is safe in India following their World Cup campaign. The statement noted, “The team was supposed to return home via Dubai, but the changing circumstances in the Middle East have impacted travel plans, causing disruptions in the necessary transit route.”
ZC is awaiting emergency measures to arrange alternative travel plans in coordination with the ICC.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has initiated emergency protocols and is collaborating with international airlines to secure alternative travel arrangements. ZC is in constant communication with the ICC and team management to ensure the team’s safe and timely return. They stated, “Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
Earlier, Zimbabwe’s head coach Justin Samons mentioned that the team’s travel plans remain uncertain following their five-wicket loss to South Africa in their final Super 8 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
