Beijing, May 20: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a significant meeting on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of 20 agreements, while also addressing the deteriorating situation in Central Asia.
According to Xinhua News Agency, during the meeting, Xi reiterated the urgent need to halt all hostilities in the Middle East. He emphasized that the situation in the Gulf region is at a “decisive turning point between war and peace.”
In a joint press conference, Xi warned about the ongoing war in the Middle East. He stated that the world is moving towards chaos. “If the fighting does not stop, it will have a significant impact on the international order and global stability,” he remarked.
Xi cautioned that unilateral military actions and prolonged warfare could lead the world into a phase where international norms weaken. Therefore, halting the conflict is crucial.
He expressed readiness to work together towards establishing a new, more rational, and equitable global governance system, aiming for prosperity. “There should be a multipolar world, and new methods of international relations must be adopted,” he added.
Additionally, Xi discussed the China-Russia relationship, marking the 30th anniversary of their strategic coordination partnership and the 25th anniversary of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.
He noted that the China-Russia relationship has evolved “step by step” as both nations have deepened political mutual trust and strategic coordination, consistently striving for new heights in cooperation, defending international justice and equality, and advancing the community for a shared future for humanity.
Putin and Xi signed a declaration aimed at strengthening their comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.
