
New Delhi, March 20: In a swift response to a bag theft incident at the Lajpat Nagar Metro Station, Delhi police have arrested a woman and recovered the stolen purse along with its full cash contents.
The complaint was filed by Deepika Arora on March 15. She reported that her purse, containing approximately ₹25,000 in cash, important cards, and other essential documents, went missing after she placed it in the baggage scanner at the station. An e-FIR was registered under Section 303(2) BNS at the Nehru Place Metro police station. Deepika Arora is a resident of Uttarakhand.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the investigation officer was assigned to the case. A joint team from the Nehru Place police station and the Metro Special Staff reviewed CCTV footage from the vicinity. During the investigation, they identified the woman who had taken the bag.
Using facial recognition technology and local intelligence, the suspect was identified as 42-year-old Asha, a resident of Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi. The police acted quickly, apprehending her and recovering the stolen purse.
The recovered purse contained a total of ₹26,728 in cash, two metro cards, and other important documents. The police have arrested the suspect under BNS provisions, and further investigation is ongoing.
Authorities reported that the woman was identified with the help of FRS cameras at the metro station. The Delhi police were also involved in the arrest. Continuous awareness campaigns are being conducted to prevent theft incidents in the metro, and monitoring is being carried out through CCTV footage.
Officials advised the public to contact security personnel directly if they encounter any issues while using the metro.
