West Bengal to Establish Magic School and Museum to Preserve Magical Heritage

West Bengal plans to set up a magic school and museum to promote and preserve its rich magical heritage for future generations.

Kolkata, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata is set to embrace its rich history of magic with plans to establish a fully operational magic school and a dedicated museum. This initiative aims to introduce the art of magic to younger generations while preserving the long-standing traditions of Bengali magic.

The West Bengal Department of Information and Cultural Affairs has begun preparations for the implementation of this project. A consultative committee has been formed to outline the framework for the initiative. Renowned magician P.C. Sarkar Jr. will serve as the chief advisor, alongside several other prominent figures deeply rooted in the magic community.

Initial discussions on the school’s and museum’s implementation have already commenced. The first formal meeting of the advisory committee took place at the Nandan auditorium in Kolkata, attended by state minister Purnima Chakraborty and department secretary Soumitra Mohan. P.C. Sarkar Jr., his wife Jayashree Sarkar, and their daughter, magician Menika Sarkar, were also present.

During this meeting, members discussed the curriculum for the proposed magic school, types of training, museum infrastructure, and a potential framework for project implementation. A significant focus was placed on positioning magic not just as stage entertainment but as a legitimate art form and science-based practice.

After the meeting, P.C. Sarkar Jr. emphasized the need to preserve the rich and ancient history of Bengali magic through scientific methods. He noted that magic encompasses science, practice, and special skills. If the state government’s initiative comes to fruition, it could provide new opportunities for the younger generation to pursue magic as a profession. The school is expected to play a vital role in fostering interest in this art among youth.

One of the primary objectives of the proposed magic museum will be to safeguard the historical practices of magic in Bengal.
