West Bengal Governor Calls for Commemoration of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14

Kolkata, August 9: The Governor of West Bengal, Ravindra Narayan Ravi, has urged all government and private universities in the state to observe ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ on August 14.

In a statement released by Lok Bhawan on Sunday, the Governor emphasized the importance of this day for all universities, affiliated colleges, and educational institutions in West Bengal. The event aims to bring together students, teachers, and parents to reflect on the tragedy of the partition and its profound impact on Bengal.

The Governor stated that this observance would provide the younger generation with an opportunity to understand one of the most tragic chapters in the country’s history.

The statement highlighted that Bengal bore the brunt of the partition, with millions forced to leave their homes, many losing their loved ones and livelihoods, resulting in significant social, cultural, and economic losses.

The Governor noted that this event would help youth comprehend the horrors of partition, the suffering endured by people during that period, and the reasons behind the country’s division. Additionally, it would serve as a reminder to remain vigilant against forces that seek to divide society.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Independence Day, the Bharatiya Janata Party has already announced the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ initiative in the state.

Furthermore, the West Bengal government has planned a special march under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ campaign on Monday. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari is expected to participate, with around 10,000 students anticipated to join the event.

According to sources, the entire program will be overseen by the education department, with the majority of responsibilities assigned to Calcutta University. The university has been tasked with coordinating with various college administrations to encourage student participation.

On the day of the event, a gathering will take place near Akashvani at 10 AM, followed by a procession starting at 1 PM, which will proceed to the Victoria Memorial. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is also expected to join the procession.
