Imphal, August 9: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh emphasized the importance of unity among all communities to safeguard the state’s territorial integrity. Speaking at the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga 2026′ campaign, he urged citizens to prioritize Manipur’s interests over community-specific concerns.
Khemchand Singh stated that the Meitei community should not focus solely on their interests, the Nagas on theirs, and the Kukis on theirs. Instead, all groups must collaborate and think collectively about the welfare of Manipur.
He highlighted that Manipur was the first state in Southeast Asia to conduct assembly elections under its constitution in 1947-48, with the first Speaker being a tribal leader from the Paite community in Churachandpur district, which is now home to the Kuki tribe.
The Chief Minister called on the majority Meitei community to act as “big brothers” and maintain unity within the state. He shared his recent visit to Kangpokpi district, where he received a warm welcome from the local populace, who appeared content and had no intentions of blocking highways.
Khemchand Singh expressed concerns about individuals attempting to create divisions among communities. He noted that his visit to Jiribam district was successful, as various communities came together to promote peace.
He referenced a tragic incident earlier this year in Bishnupur district, where an explosion claimed the lives of two innocent children, indicating that some individuals do not wish for peace to return to Manipur.
The Chief Minister urged citizens to unite as Indians and work diligently to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’ and ‘Developed Manipur.’
Ajit Gopachade, the BJP’s Central Observer for Manipur and a Rajya Sabha member, praised Khemchand Singh’s leadership, stating that the state is progressing towards peace and development.
He commended the role of women in successfully executing the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga‘ campaign, despite adverse weather conditions.
During the event, Sharda Devi, the state BJP president and Rajya Sabha member, reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring peace in Manipur, noting that the Chief Minister is consistently visiting hill districts to normalize the situation.
She acknowledged that while opposition parties may criticize the state government, the BJP remains dedicated to leading Manipur towards peace and prosperity.
