Kolkata, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata’s Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, announced on Sunday that the state government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is committed to protecting cows and will take strict action against those who insult saints. Speaking at a Bhagavad Gita recitation event organized by the Bangur Jagran Manch at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Adhikari emphasized that any disrespect towards saints or sages in West Bengal will not be tolerated.
His remarks come amid rising political tensions in the state over religious statements concerning Bengali dietary habits during the Durga Puja festival. Adhikari reassured attendees that there should be no fear in practicing or promoting any religion.
He encouraged the crowd to read and share the Bhagavad Gita, distribute Hanuman Chalisa without hesitation, chant Hare Krishna mantras, and blow conch shells, asserting that there is no reason to be afraid as the tide is turning.
During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s priorities regarding religious and cultural traditions. He declared that the BJP’s administration is here to protect cows and will imprison those who insult saints and gurus.
Adhikari also urged the audience to remain vigilant against divisive forces. He called for unity against groups that advocate for separatism, referencing slogans like “Kashmir Maanega Azaadi.”
The event saw an impressive turnout, with 11,000 participants reciting the Bhagavad Gita together. Adhikari expressed gratitude to the attendees for their recent awakening in West Bengal’s spiritual landscape. He announced a historic event scheduled for December 29 in Kolkata, where a million voices will join in reciting the Gita.
