Suvendu Adhikari Critiques TMC-CPI(M) Alliance as a Convenience Marriage
Suvendu Adhikari labels the TMC-CPI(M) alliance a convenience marriage, criticizing their political motives amid electoral tensions.

Kolkata, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : In Kolkata, on September 27, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has labeled the emerging understanding between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) as a “convenience marriage.” His comments come amid speculation about a potential alliance following remarks made by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Adhikari’s statement follows a report detailing exchanges between former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby regarding a “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) issue among top officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
He stated, “The communication between M.A. Baby and Mamata Banerjee was clearly aimed at forming a political understanding. There was a time when the people of West Bengal brought the TMC to power to remove the CPI(M). Now, the TMC and CPI(M) have become friends. Mamata Banerjee has allied with the CPI(M). This is all just an attempt to remain relevant, but despite this, they will not change their standing in the state.”
Adhikari also addressed Banerjee’s claims that over 2.7 million legitimate voters were removed from the electoral rolls due to the SIR. He remarked, “Now she is blaming her defeat on the BJP, ECI, and SIR, but the truth is she had approached the Supreme Court against the SIR. It was only after the Supreme Court’s order that judicial officials were appointed, and those officials made the decisions.”
He asserted that Banerjee and other opposition leaders are using SIR as a scapegoat for their impending electoral losses. “In West Bengal, we won 208 seats while the TMC was reduced to just 80. Mamata Banerjee cannot accept the people’s verdict. She has even lost the name and symbol of the party she founded,” he added.
Adhikari also mocked the low turnout of TMC supporters at Banerjee’s rally in Shrirampur, Hooghly district, on Saturday afternoon.
