Kolkata, August 15: On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, the national flag was hoisted across the country. In West Bengal’s Assembly complex, State Industry Minister Tapas Roy raised the Tricolor and extended his greetings to the citizens on this significant day.
After the flag hoisting, Tapas Roy spoke with news agencies, stating that the 80th Independence Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm and pride nationwide. Various programs are being organized at both central and state levels, and under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the national flag is being displayed in homes across the country.
He noted that extensive celebrations are also taking place in West Bengal. Events are being held not only at the Assembly but also at Writers’ Building, Red Road, and various parts of the state. Clubs and other institutions are also participating by hoisting the Tricolor. There is a palpable excitement among the people regarding this national festival.
Tapas Roy emphasized that Independence Day serves as a reminder of the country’s unity, strength, and sovereignty, and it is a time to reaffirm the commitment to protect these values. He pointed out that since independence, there have been forces attempting to undermine the nation’s unity and strength.
He urged the public to stand firmly against any such attempts. Maintaining the country’s unity and sovereignty is the responsibility of every citizen, and the nation’s strength lies in its solidarity. On this Independence Day, the minister called on people to prioritize national interests and strengthen mutual unity and brotherhood.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari urged political parties to set aside their differences and unite for the comprehensive development of the state. He made this appeal while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations organized by the state government at Red Road in central Kolkata. During his speech, he highlighted Bengal’s historical legacy in the national freedom struggle and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the public’s expectations.
