Noida, February 10: The fluctuating weather and alarming levels of air pollution in the NCR (Delhi-Noida-Ghaziabad) are severely impacting public health. Approximately 50% of patients visiting district hospitals are suffering from seasonal illnesses.
There has been a notable increase in cases of vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, breathing difficulties, and allergies. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light fog is expected in the NCR from February 10 to 12. During this period, maximum temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will be between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius. The chilly mornings and evenings, combined with intense daytime heat, are contributing to rising illness rates.
The air quality index (AQI) remains a significant concern. Several areas in Delhi have recorded AQI levels in the red category, including Anand Vihar at 317, Ashok Vihar at 328, Bawana at 333, Narela at 344, Nehru Nagar at 316, and Mandka at 357, indicating severe pollution. Other locations such as Chandni Chowk at 291, DTU at 283, Punjabi Bagh at 275, Okhla Phase-2 at 283, and Patparganj at 269 also report poor air quality.
Noida’s situation is similarly troubling, with AQI readings of 307 in Sector 125, 263 in Sector 116, 236 in Sector 1, and 224 in Sector 62. Ghaziabad shows even worse conditions, with AQI levels reaching 402 in Loni, 315 in Indirapuram, 307 in Vasundhara, and 275 in Sanjay Nagar.
Doctors attribute the rise in gastrointestinal infections and respiratory diseases to sudden weather changes, increased humidity, and pollution. Experts advise residents to exercise caution when going outdoors, especially in the mornings and evenings. They recommend wearing masks, drinking clean water, and avoiding fried foods.
