Wang Yi Urges China and India to Move Closer by Ending Interference

Beijing, March 8: On March 8, a press conference on China’s diplomacy was held in Beijing, where Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the relationship between China and India. He emphasized the need for both countries to move forward in the direction set by their leaders, stressing the importance of eliminating interference to foster closer ties.

Wang Yi noted that a successful meeting took place last August between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the SCO summit in Tianjin. This meeting was followed by another encounter at the BRICS leaders’ meeting in Kazan, Russia, scheduled for 2024, which further strengthened China-India relations. Both sides have earnestly implemented the significant agreements reached by their leaders, enhanced exchanges at all levels, achieved new heights in bilateral trade, and witnessed a rapid increase in cultural exchanges, benefiting the people of both nations.

Wang Yi highlighted that China and India are important neighbors, both part of the Global South, sharing deep cultural ties and extensive common interests. Mutual trust and cooperation between China and India are conducive to shared development, while division and confrontation are detrimental to Asia’s resurgence. Both parties should adhere to the correct strategic understanding that they are not rivals but partners, viewing each other as opportunities rather than threats.

He also stated that China and India should jointly safeguard peace and stability in border areas, following the path of good neighborly relations and friendship. They should focus on development and promote practical cooperation to achieve more concrete results. Additionally, they should support each other in taking on the BRICS presidency this year and next, aiming to bring new hope to the broader Global South through golden BRICS cooperation.
